Miriam Allena
I am Associate Professor of Administrative Law at Bocconi University, where I teach European Environmental Law, ESG Law, Administrative Environmental Law and Climate Change. I have previously taught Administrative Law, Global Administrative Law, Public Law and Public Procurement Law.
I am the Director of the MSc in Transnational Sustainability, a program jointly offered by Bocconi University and Politecnico di Milano. I am a Fellow at GREEN and at BAFFI CAREFIN, and a co‑founder of the Observatory on Public Procurement and Sustainability.
I hold an MSc in Law (J.D. equivalent), summa cum laude, from the Catholic University of Milan (2004), an LL.M. from the School of Specialization for Legal Professions of the same university, and a PhD in Administrative Law from the University of Milan (2008).
In September 2018, I obtained the National Scientific Qualification (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale) as Full Professor of Administrative Law, by unanimous decision of the National Evaluation Committee.
My academic appointments include Assistant Professor of Administrative Law at the Catholic University of Milan (2009-2012), Post‑Doctoral Researcher at Bocconi University (2006-2009), and Associate Research Fellow at the Centre for Socio‑Legal Studies, University of Oxford (2015–2018). I am a Permanent Member of the Common Room at Wolfson College, University of Oxford.
I have been Visiting Scholar or Visiting Professor at, inter alia, the University of Oxford, Berkeley Law School, the University of Italian Switzerland (USI), Trinity College Dublin, New York University, the University of Reading, and Université Montesquieu Bordeaux IV.
I have published two books and more than seventy articles in Italian and international journals. My research focuses on administrative law, administrative due process, and environmental law.
I have held several high-level institutional advisory appointments with the Italian Government, including advisory and law-drafting roles on inter-ministerial commissions and expert committees at the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, and the Ministry of Public Administration.
Since 2024, I have been a Member of the Supervisory Body of the Fondazione Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Teatro d’Europa.
I am currently on leave from my position as Of Counsel at Baker McKenzie, Milan.
