Celebration of Prof. Giuseppe Franco Ferrari
On September 14, 2023, the Department of Legal Studies celebrated Giuseppe Franco Ferrari, an Emeritus Professor of Constitutional Law at the University Bocconi, on the occasion of the lectio magistralis he delivered on the topic “I diritti nel costituzionalismo globale: luci e ombre” (Rights in Global Constitutionalism: Lights and Shadows). The lecture was organized with the support of the School DPCE of the Associazione DPCE. Comparative and constitutional law scholars of different backgrounds and seniority attended the lecture. Among the most prominent Italian jurists in comparative constitutional law, Ferrari’s career has been characterized by significant international outcomes, from his Fulbright Scholarship at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, to his recent visiting professorship at Fordham University. Since the publication of his early works, Professor Ferrari has been a leading voice within the international community of comparative constitutional scholars, as, among other things, his vice-presidency of the Académie internationale de droit compare/International Academy of Comparative Law in the years 2014-2022 proves. Also, Ferrari promoted the development of the domestic academic community, founding the Associazione di diritto pubblico comparato ed europeo (DPCE- Association of Public and European Comparative Law) in 2001, whose presidency he relinquished in 2016. He has held important positions within international organizations and Italian institutions in parallel with his academic commitment. To mention a few, he was appointed member of the Council of Experts in Administrative Law in the UN Economic and Social Council and served as president of IFEL (Istituto per la Finanza e l’Economia Locale-Institute for Local Finance and Economics) in the years 2009-2013.
